2020 Election: Nana Addo Votes In Kyebi
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has cast his vote in the ongoing 2020 general election.
The first gentleman of the land who is contesting the polls as the presidential candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) exercised his franchise in his home town, Kyebi at the Rock of Ages polling centre at the Abuakwa South Constituency of the Eastern Region.
Akufo-Addo was accompanied by his wife, the First-Lady of the Republic, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo who also votes in the same constituency together with some of her daughters.
The President voted a few minutes ago. He did that in the company of his wife, the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo. Some of his daughters also accompanied him to do the voting centre. He went through the process by observing the COVID-19 safety protocols.
President Akufo-Addo speaking to the media after casting his vote expressed optimism of being retained in the polls adding that he is impressed with the smooth running of the voting process.
Already, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has also voted in the Walewale constituency of the North East Region.
Speaking to the media after casting his ballot, Dr. Bawumia called for a peaceful electoral process maintaining that Ghana should defend its spot as the best example of democracy in West Africa.
He also urged Ghanaians to come out in their numbers and exercise their franchise.
“I went through all the COVID-19 protocols. And it has gone on very smoothly. I have cast my vote, and everybody should be patient in carrying out this constitutional duty.”
“We want to wish the Electoral Commission well. We want to wish all Ghanaians well. And we should make our nation proud by ensuring a peaceful process,” he said.
Nana Addo’s bid to the presidency
The president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo began his bid to the presidency in 2008 but lost the polls after the elections went to a run-off.
He subsequently contested in 2012 and also lost but challenged the results at the Supreme Court.
The court however ruled against him in a case known as the Election Petition.
President Akufo-Addo contested the election again in 2016 this time winning by close to a million votes margin.
During his first time, President Akufo-Addo implemented the one district one factory policy, free SHS programme for both boarding and day students, one village one dam among other programmes he promised ahead of the 2016 election.
