2 Breman Galamsey Pit Owners Arrested

Two persons known to be site owners of the galamsey pit that caved in at Breman Brofoyedur in the Central Region have been arrested.

Kwaku Appiah and Kofi Appiah were picked up by the police Thursday to assist with investigations.

Dozens of people are suspected dead in the collapsed illegal mining pit accident at Breman Brofoyedur, near Ayanfuri, in the Upper Denykyira West Municipality.

Three bodies have so far been retrieved.

Accident

The Central Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Irene Oppong, said at about 6:25 a.m. last Wednesday, the Denkyira Dominase Police received report that at about 5 a.m. of the same day, a mining pit had caved in on some illegal miners at a site at Denkyira Breman Brofoyedur.

Police proceeded to the crime scene and, together with officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation, retrieved the bodies of Kwasi Yeboah, 24; Fabatia, 13, and an unidentified female adult.

She said the bodies of the deceased had been deposited at the mortuary of the Dunkwa-On-Offin Municipal Hospital for preservation, identification and autopsy while investigations continued.
