Chairman Wontumi Calls For Unity Among Media Practitioners In Ashanti
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Wontumi Communications and Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, has assured the media fraternity in Ashanti that his doors are always opened to them and that, nothing will be done to thwart their efforts as they play various productive roles in meeting national development objectives.
In a statement issued in Kumasi and signed by the General Manager of Wontumi Communications, Mr Kofi Agyei, Chairman Wontumi as he is fondly called, was quoted as saying that, “his strongest desire and expectation is to see media practitioners in Ashanti work in unity and in freedom at all times.”
The statement was in reaction to the expression of a highly personalized viewpoint on last Tuesday’s doctored video documentary aired on Adom TV.
The purely defamatory documentary authored by Spokesperson of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, sought to impugn the integrity of the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and make him unpopular.
The Wontumi TV/Radio panel member’s outburst drew a sharp rebuttal from the morning show panel on KESSBEN FM’s thus, creating the impression that the two media powerhouses in Ashanti are at logger heads.
Last Tuesday’s doctored video documentary aired on Adom TV authored by Spokesperson of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, sought to impugn the integrity of the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and make him unpopular.
The documentary has attracted a strongly worded apology from the Multi Media Group.
“In all fairness and humility, I’m prepared to work with and accommodate each media practitioner so long as I remain the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling part. Never will I use my media outlets and other platforms to attack other media organizations for a wedge to develop between us because we are not rivals but partners in national development.” The statement quoted the Ashanti Regional Chairman.
According to the statement, Chairman Wontumi has called for cool heads to prevail in addressing any emerging situation that can create disaffection and enmity between his media organization and others.
“At this stage of our national development, most especially as the election is a few days away, there is no need to engage in a media war over a damning issue which should rather unite the practitioners instead of dividing them in a country whose media freedom has become an envy of most countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
