The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has bestowed honorary degree on the Director-General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), Mr. Joe Anokye.
Mr. Anokye was honoured during the 57th KNUST congregation on Friday, for his outstanding contributions to Ghana and beyond.
The Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ellis Owusu Dabo, commended Dr. Anokye for his insightful presentation on the evolution of telecommunications in the country.
In a statement read before the bestowment, The Pro-Vice-Chancellor noted that Mr. Anokye’s passion for coaching, developing technology teams, and his unquenchable drive to break new bounds in telecommunication industry, led him and his team of network engineers, to collaborate in many telecommunication network installations with companies such as Cisco Systems, Japan Aerospace agency, European science agency, German’s space operation center in the United States, postal services.
Touting some of his achievements, it was mentioned that the DG is on record as having successfully managed the full cycle of NASA integrated telecommunication services policy and the implementation for the NASA mission network.
“Back in Ghana, your immense contribution to the evolving phase of the national communication authority cannot be overlooked. Among your numerous innovations creating opportunities for mobile network operators, to expand 3G coverage in underserved and unsafe communities to improve universal access is worth mentioning”, he said.
Stressing that his contribution to the telecom industry continues to make the world an easier and happier place to live.

A new age for a renewed focus, in an era of disruptive Technologies, have contributed significantly to the success or the 57th congregation of the university.
He added that in recognition of Mr. Anokye’s outstanding contribution to society and to the betterment of humanity, Ghana is proud of him, and KUST is gratified to have him as one of his own.
The congregation was chaired by the Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, His Royal Majesty Otumfuor Osei Tutu II and had the Vice President, H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the Guest Speaker. The event was attended by various dignitaries, including the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ellis Owusu Dabo, the immediate past Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kwasi Obiri Danso, deans and heads of colleges, traditional leaders, executive members of NCA, and students.
Mr. Joe Anokye delivered the lectures on the theme, “KNUST After 70: A New Age for a Renewed Focus in an Era of Disruptive Technologies.
“The onus rests on us to rekindle Dr R. P. Baffour’s flame of visionary leadership, ensuring that KNUST remains illuminated, guiding not just Ghana but the entire African continent into an era where technology is not just adopted but innovated, understood, and pioneered here within our revered walls,” Mr. Joe Anokye said during his lecture.
