The Ashanti regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, has exposed former President John Mahama for using an old trick in his incessant attack on the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC).
Reacting to the latest comment by the 2020 flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Antwi-Boasiako aka Chairman Wontumi stated that Mr. Mahama was scheming to reduce the credibility of the EC by constantly tagging the institution of being hostile towards his party.
In an interview with Wontumionline.com, Chairman Wontumi recalled that before the 2016 elections, former President John Mahama stated in an address to the NDC that “one way to reduce the credibility of the EC in the eyes of the public is to vilify it”.
Before the 2016 general elections Mr. Mahama response to concerns which were raised by the opposition NPP that the EC was in bed with the NDC was that: It’s an old trick in the book; vilify the referee and reduce his credibility in the eyes of the public when you can tell you are losing the match. This creates the platform where when you lose you contest the outcome of the match, and this is the underlying force for all the whining that is taking place against the EC at every step of the electoral process.
In an observation of Nigeria’s elections so far, Mahama praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for being receptive to concerns raised by the various political parties and the stakeholders in that country.
Taking to his Facebook page, he said the same cannot be said of Ghana’s EC, which has been accused of being in bed with the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to him, the EC boss has shown open bias towards the NDC and failed to heed moves by the National Peace Council for an amicable resolution to the impasse.
He has slammed the Chairperson of EC, Jean Mensa, of legendary hostility towards the NDC.
