The deputy Director of Communications at the Office of the President, Lawyer Fatima Abubakar, has lashed out at former President John Mahama describing him as a “sour loser” who doesn’t have respect for Judges at the Supreme Court.
In an interview on Wontumi TV which was monitored by Wontumionline.com, the astute lawyer noted that she has respect for the former President but was surprised at the barrage of insults he hurled at the court shortly after his petition was dismissed.
Shortly after verdict was delivered, Mr. Mahama in an address to the media stated that his case “will go into the Ghana Law Reports for the future, and academics and students of law alike will clearly find befuddling, the internal contradictions in our jurisprudence. At the appropriate time, the legal team will come out with detailed comments on the judgment”.
But lawyer Abubakar responded by noting that between the 18 to 20 times that the court sat on the case, Mr. Mahama as petitioner, showed up in court only 3 times.
“These same judges that he is attacking were present but you as a petitioner came there only three times yet you say they are not fair. The judges had time to listen to all the applications and reviews that the lawyers for Mahama presented”, deputy Director of Communications at the Office of the President said to defend the Supreme Court judges.
Lawyer Abubakar advised the defeated flagbearer of the NDC to emulate the precedent set by President Akufo-Addo when in 2013, he lost his case but respected the court’s verdict and even went further to quickly call then President Mahama to congratulate him.
“He (Mahama) ought to be have been graceful like President Nana did so time back. President Akufo-Addo has left a legacy showing he loves this country when he lost his case at the Supreme Court. Mr. Mahama should not have insulted the EC chairperson and the Judges in his speech”, Fatima Abubakar said.
She added that Mr. Mahama should showcase to Ghanaians that he is a unifier by backing his words with actions.
