An aspiring Nasara Coordinator for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Awal Mohammed, says Captain Smart and Afrifa want to use the demonstration to raise their dead journalism career.
On Sunday, May, 29th the Accra Regional Police Command received a notice from a group to demonstrate armed, among these were Caption Smart and Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah who are both Journalists. According to the notice they were going to have a 3-day armed demonstration starting June 3rd, 2022 and they will demand to speak to the nation on the State television, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC). The police however declined their request.
Awal Mohammed while speaking to Kwaku Dawuro on Movement TV described the two Journalists’ careers as dead hence, their pursuit to embark on the demonstration to get the attention of the media.
‘’GBC is still a security zone because all the four coups that happened in Ghana took place at the said media house. If anyone can seize that space then it means a coup has taken place. The 1979 June 4th revolution occurred at GBC, this clearly shows that it is a coup they are calling for. We should be very vigilant about the kind of people we allow on radio’’, he said.
He further stated, “Captain Smart and Afrifa are some great journalists who climbed higher in their career but quenched fire along the way, and they now want to use every means to become relevant again in the media industry”.
“People have even forgotten they were once vibrant journalists so they have joined the coup to become relevant”, he added.
He advised media houses, and journalists not to waste their productive time discussing them and called on the police to get them arrested.
