You Snubbed NDC Founder’s Daughter-Afenyo-Markin Criticizes Mahama’s Cabinet

Leader of the Minority in Parliament, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has expressed disappointment and concern over the low representation of women in President Mahama’s government.

Despite the President’s promise to ensure gender equity and empower women in his administration, his 19-member cabinet has only two women, falling short of his commitment to promoting gender balance.

Afenyo-Markin specifically questioned the absence of several women, including Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, daughter of the NDC’s founder, Jerry John Rawlings. He argued that her exclusion, along with other capable women, undermines the President’s pledge to promote gender equality.

The Effutu lawmaker made these remarks while seconding the Majority Leader’s motion to adjourn the House after the President’s address.

He emphasized that the low representation of women in the cabinet is a missed opportunity for the President to demonstrate his commitment to empowering women and promoting diversity in his administration
