Results of the 2020 general elections should not spur the National Democratic Congress and their flagbearer to think that they were close to snatching political power, the Ashanti regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has advised.

Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako aka Chairman Wontumi stated on Wontumi TV that as a sitting President, it was a shame that John Mahama was beaten by over a million votes by then candidate Nana Akufo-Addo.

According to him, electoral records have shown that the NPP were close to power in 2008, when the elections were forced in a third round and then in 2012, when it went for second round before a winner was decided.

He however stated that the 2016 elections didn’t have the same feature because John Mahama as a sitting President was beaten by over a million votes. Then in 2020, Chairman Wontumi stated that President Akufo-Addo again beat John Mahama by over 500,000 votes showing that the NDC is still not close to capturing political power.

“So therefore their claim that they got 6 million votes and President Akufo-Addo also got 6 million is wrong. We beat you (NDC) by close to 600,000 votes and that is unprecedented”, he explained.
