The Bono regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party, Kwame Baffoe has predicted that Dr. Stephen Opuni, would be incarcerated for allegedly stealing over GHC200 million state funds belonging to the Ghana Cocoa Board.

Under the tenure of former President John Mahama, Dr. Stephen Opuni, as head of COCOBOD, secured a $1.8 billion commodity loan from the international money market to boost cocoa purchasing and production in Ghana.

But shortly after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lost power, several millions which was unused by COCOBOD got missing from state coffers.

The government of President Akufo-Addo has taken up the matter and a trail has commenced to get to the bottom of the matter.

It is on the back of this that Kwame Baffoe popularly known as Chairman Abronye has stated that he sees Dr. Stephen Opuni being sentenced to jail for allegedly committing the crime.

“before the government of John Mahama left office, the syndicated loan which they took totalling $1.5 billion was only left with GHC 420 million at the Bank of Ghana…On December 9, 2016, they managed to redraw the remaining money from BoG and we cant find it”, Chairman Abronye revealed.

Speaking on the Nsempa Fie show on Wontumi TV, Chairman Abronye also took a swipe at former President John Mahama who he believes benefitted from the alleged crime.

According to him it was a disgrace for the former President to organize his followers to storm the court where Dr. Stephen Opuni’s case is being heard simply “to insult the judge sitting on the case”.

He also stated that Mr. Mahama has no moral right to take President Akufo-Addo on when it comes to fixing the economy, since alot of stolen money are with appointees who served under the erstwhile NDC government.
