The Ashanti Regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has turned the heat on Manasseh Azure describing him as a symbol of hopelessness to the media fraternity in Ghana.
The sharp rebuttal from Chairman Wontumi, comes after the former Joy FM reporter claimed that President Akufo-Addo has become an epitome of hopelessness in the country.
Reacting to President Akufo-Addo’s recent State of the Nation’s Address in an interview on an Accra based radio station, Mr. Azure claimed that the President has disappointed the hundreds of Ghanaians who reposed confidence in him ahead of the 2016 general elections.
“If any State of the Nation Address meets my expectations, it isn’t what Mr. Akufo-Addo delivered. Because he has come to represent hopelessness in my view. I used to be one of those who cheered him most whenever he wanted to speak, but these days, I struggle to tolerate him when he’s speaking.
But speaking to Wontumionline.com, Chairman Wontumi made reference to a portion of the speech delivered by President Akufo-Addo during SONA pointing out that between 2017 and the beginning of 2020 demonstrates that the current government had been making rapid progress.
He added that in 2017, 2018 and 2019, Ghana recorded average annual GDP growth rates of 7%, making us one of the fastest growing economies in the world.
“We grew the economy from the cedi equivalent of fifty-four billion United States dollars ($54 billion) at the end of 2016 to the cedi equivalent of seventy-two billion dollars ($72 billion) in 2020, a thirty-three percent (33%) increase”, he said as he referenced President Akufo-Addo.
