President Akufo-Addo’s name is already being mentioned with the martyrs and attempts by Professor Patrick Loch Otieno Lumumba to downplay his achievements would sink, the Ashanti Regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has warned.
Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako also known as Chairman Wontumi stated that Prof Lumumba picked a wrong fight by throwing his spotlight on President Akufo-Addo when he claimed that he had a vision to uplift Ghana in terms of industrialization and development but has so far, not achieved it.
Speaking to Wontumionline.com in an interview, Chairman Wontumi stated that in the midst of COVID-19, global leaders have hailed President Akufo-Addo as the best performing President and didn’t even mention Uhuru Kenyatta’s name- pointing out that Kenyatta’s performance should have been Professor Lumumba focus since he comes from Kenya.
He stated that when President Akufo-Addo took over from former President John Mahama, Ghana, was in the hands of IMF and it took the good performance of Akufo-Addo to wean the country off IMF.
Chairman Wontumi explained that the banking sector crisis was also one of the critical areas the government of President Akufo-Addo focused on and addressed to make Ghana’s economy a better one.
“When President Nana Akufo-Addo took over from the previous government, Ghana was in the hands of IMF and our economy was bad”, Chairman Wontumi reminded Prof Lumumba.
In getting Ghana back on track, Chairman Wontumi stated that the government of President Akufo-Addo had to “reform banking sector.”
He continued that as soon as things took off smoothly, COVID hit the entire world but the pandemic, according to Chairman Wontumi didn’t stop President Akufo-Addo from showcasing to the entire world that he is the “best performing President”.
“He (Akufo-Addo) gave Ghanaians free food, water and electricity. If you look at how he managed the pandemic to keep our economy intact, it shows he is the best”, Chairman Wontumi said.
