Broadcast Journalist Oheneba Nana Asiedu has expressed concerns that the allegations against Chairman Wontumi are a politically motivated witch-hunt that will ultimately fail.
According to Oheneba, if the allegations are based on hearsay, then action shouldn’t be taken without giving Wontumi a fair hearing.
“How do you draw conclusions as a whole Minister, based on hearsays, without giving the accuser a fair hearing. This is obviously a political persecution, and he will definitely fail”, he said.
He questions the selective nature of the allegations, citing instances where other individuals, including a former president’s bodyguard and an MP, have been implicated in galamsey activities without facing similar consequences.
“We were in this country when some galamseyer were arrested and they mentioned the name of Mahama’s bodyguard as their Boss…was he invited and questioned too? The Aowin MP was equally accused to be involved in galamsey, to the extent that the traditional rulers banned him from entering into their town. Did the minister not hear of these two instances? Or is it because their government is in power so they cannot be arrested or questioned. This is pure political witch-hunting,” Oheneba insisted.
He suggests that the NDC’s actions against Wontumi are driven by a desire to undermine the NPP by portraying Wontumi as a galamsey kingpin.
