Wee Toffees!! Drivers To Be Punished For Taking Illegal Substance- GPRTU PRO Says (VIDEO)

A recent report from the Winneba Municipal Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), DOIII Kwesi Hughes, states that some commercial drivers consume wee toffees and other substances to aid them to drive for long hours.

The report comes after an investigation was conducted on the Accra-Cape Coast highway due to rampant road accidents in the first quarter of 2022.

On Tuesday, 10th May, 2022, Alhaji Abass Imoro, the Public Relations Officer for the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), told Kwaku Dawuro, the host of Movement in the Morning Political Show that the Union is working to ensure safety on our roads to curb road accidents.

Speaking on the issue, he said, “taking wee toffees to stay awake is an offense, you put lives at risk. The law will deal with any driver who indulges him or herself in such act.’’.

He advised all drivers to adhere to rules and regulations on our roads.

He confirmed that GPRTU has increased transport fares by 20% which is approximately 0.70pesewas.

Pearl Gyasie, the Public Relations Officer for Road Safety Commission, cautioned drivers to stay away from drugs while on the road.

Once the drug is detected in your body the police will deal with you. You will be fined or locked in prison. We are intensifying education on the health risk associated to taking drugs”, she said.
