Staging coup would not put an end to Ghana’s problem, Mr. Koku Anyidoho has said as he has advised Ghanaians to embrace democratic rule.

Mr. Anyidoho in an interview on Wontumi TV stated that he had been arrested before for a similar offense but the police dropped the case because they realized he wasn’t calling for coup to happen in Ghana.

“In 2018, they arrested me and stated that I had the intention to stage a coup. For 48 hours I was behind bars but they dropped the case after they did their investigations. The matter never got to court”, he said on TV.

A key member of former President John Mahama’s government, Oliver Mawuse Barker-Vormawor has been accused of inciting an overthrow of constitutional organs of government.

He was arrested on February 11, 2022, over claims that he had threatened to cause a coup if government went ahead to pass the controversial Electronic Transaction Levy.

Mr. Barker-Vormawor in his application for bail, contested the claims, saying a charge of treason felony against him cannot be sustained by the evidence available.

But Mr. Anyidoho proclaimed that staging coup is not an end to Ghana’s problem.

“Would coup take away our problems overnight? It is not the end of our problem, we should stick to democratic rule”, he said.
