A communicator of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Solomon Assante, has advised party members to get rid of ethnocentrism as the party is set to break the 8 come 2024.
Speaking with Kwaku Dawuro on Movement In The Morning Show, Mr Assante indicated that party members must not be xenophobic, but rather they must tolerate individual views and associations.
Adding his voice to Hopeson Adorye’s statement, he said that the former Kpone Katamanso Parliamentary candidate’s comment was an analysis of the party’s tradition and it was not a tribalistic comment as it has speculated.
”I condemn all tribal comment- however Hopeson Adorye was only referring to the tradition of the party using data. He did a trend analysis on how the Presidential ticket has been over the years. He was not being tribalistic. There have been a particular formula from the time of Albert Adu Boahene and Roland Issifu Alhassan, John Agyekum Kufuor and Alhaji Aliu Mahama and incumbent President Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. The trend has been the Danquah-Dombo or the Busia Dombo camp”, he said.
On Saturday, 12th August 2022, the former Parliamentary candidate for Kpone-Katamanso during the “walk for Allan” in Kumasi made a statement that has been described as tribalistic.
Analyzing the NPP Presidential ticket since 1992, Hopeson Adorye stated the tradition has been a Christian-Muslim ticket. According to some groups, his comment indicates assets that Northerners are reserved for the running-mate positions.
Concluding, Solomon Assante advised party members and leasers to desist from comments and actions that might bring division in the party.
