“We Don’t Want To See Injuncted Assin North MP In Parliament”- NPP Sympathizer

A sympathizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Etwienana Baffour Oteatuoso Kokoben II says Ghanaians don’t want to see the injuncted Assin North Member of Parliament, Mr. James Gyakye Quayson in Parliament.

“If we see the Assin North MP-elect in Parliament then the trust Alban Bagbin has for the law and the constitution would be punctured,” he said.

According to Nana Oteatuoso who was contributing to a panel discussion on Wontumi Radio/TV how the Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Alban Bagbin will handle the injunction case in Parliament will let Ghanaians know if they should obey the law or not.

According to Nana Oteatuoso, the Clerk of Parliament was the acting Speaker of Parliament so the case happened before he was elected but if Alban Bagbin has been elected as the Speaker he should handle it well.

“I know Alban Bagbin to be a professional lawyer and has been the longest serving Member of Parliament. He has experience in Parliamentary affairs. I won’t be surprised if he happens to be among those who wrote the 1992 Constitution.

Background

A Cape Coast High Court on 6th January granted an injunction restraining the Member of Parliament-elect for Assin North, Richard Quayson from being sworn-in into the 8th Parliament.

The injunction was granted in a case filed by one Michael Ankomah-Nimfa of Assin Bereku who claims Mr. Quayson holds dual citizenship of Ghana and Canada.

However, the Assin North MP- elect, Mr. Quayson casted his ballot despite the court injunction.
