A former Minister for Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament (MP) for New Edubiase, hon George Oduro has advised all delegates ahead of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) national delegates conference to be vigilant and ensure they cast their ballot for competent leaders.
In an interview with Oheneba Asiedu on Wontumi Radio/ Movement TV, the advisor to the Food and Agriculture Minister, stated that ” the upcoming internal election is more crucial than any other election held since 1992, as the party is poised to make history of breaking the eight year jinx. If you check the statistic of elections in Ghana, the NPP is the only party to run an election with close to a million votes difference and also more than 500,000 for a second term; this tells that we’ve a lot of sympathizers and members”.
He was however quick to add that “the party should be able to deal drastically with apathy among members of the party, if not it will affect the fortunes of the party in the 2024 general elections. It would be easy for us to break the eight if we are able to deal away with the ‘I’ve earned nothing’ syndrome. A lot more people have been lamenting of not getting any materialized benefit since the assumption of the Akufo-Addo led administration into office”.
“Government appointees are key factors in ensuring that we break the eight year cycle- all those contesting for the elections are competent and capable of managing whatever position they are contesting for but at this crucial moment, we need people who will help us break the eight”, he added.
He urged delegates to vote for aspirants with vision and focus and must not be influenced by money.
The ruling NPP is expected to run its National delegates conference to elect national executives to steer the affairs of the party for the next four years on the 16th to 17th July 2022.
