The Programme Manager for the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) Dr Kwame Amponsah Achiano has explained the Monkey Pox disease.
According to Dr Amponsah Achiano, the Monkey Pox is not a new disease.
Speaking to Oheneba Nana Asiedu on Wontumi TV Morning Show on Thursday he said the Monkey Pox is related to smallpox but is less severe.
He disclosed that It typically causes flu-like symptoms, swollen lymph nodes and a rash that progresses from small red bumps to fluid- or pus-filled blisters.
Dr Amponsah Achiano hinted that the disease affects rodents and if monkeys prey on them they contract the disease, hence the name Monkey Pox.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed five cases of the Monkeypox disease.
No death has been recorded among the cases, the director-general of the GHS, Dr Patrick Kuma Aboagye, made this known Wednesday.
According to Dr Kumah, the cases were recorded in three regions; Eastern, Western and Greater Accra.
