The Ahafo Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Owusu Sekyere, has shared his thoughts on the selection of a running mate for Dr. Bawumia.
In an interview with NET2 TV monitored by movementtvonline, Chairman Owusu Sekyere emphasized the importance of choosing a running mate who will not create apathy within the party.
Kyere believes that selecting either NAPO or Adutwum, both of whom have expressed interest in the position, could lead to divisions within the party.
“Both individuals have strong support bases that may not align with the party’s overall interests. If we choose either of them, it will create cracks within the party, and our supporters may become apathetic.
“We don’t want to create a situation where some supporters feel marginalized or ignored. We need a running mate who can unite the party”, he said.
Instead, he suggests that a female running mate from the Ashanti region would be a wise choice, considering the significant female voter demographics.
The Ashanti region is the bedrock of our party, and we need to cater to the interests of our loyal supporters,” Kyere stated.
“With 51% of voters being female, it would be strategic to choose a female running mate who can connect with our female supporters and bring them on board.”
Chairman Sekyere also emphasized the need for a running mate who can bring peace of mind and success to the presidency.
“We need someone who can work harmoniously with Dr. Bawumia and help him achieve his vision for the party and the country,” he said.
The chairman suggested that a woman who has the support of the Ashanti Paramount queen mothers and is well-known within the party would be an ideal choice.
“We need someone who understands the party’s dynamics and can help us retain power in the next election and that person is the Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Maame Akosua Frema Osei Opare,” he added.
