Within an institution setup where discipline believed to held high, some military officers with strong leanings towards the National Democratic Congress have found way to organize political meetings at Burma Camp, a retired military Colonel has revealed.
Mr. Kwadwo Damoah (rtd) made the scathing revelation on Wontumi TV last Thursday during a discussion on an array of issues.
According to the current Commissioner for the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) during his active days in the service, some officers who supported the NDC were allowed to engage in politics whilst those who opposed their ideology were prevented from doing same.
“Soldiers who support the NDC till date hold meetings at in Burma Camp. But soldiers who support the NPP are prevented from doing same and most of them don’t even have the courage to do what their colleagues on the other side are doing”, he said.
Pressed by Oheneba Asiedu, host of the Wontumi Morning Show to shed more light on the issue, Mr. Kwadwo Damoah (rtd) noted that the only time soldiers who believed in the ideology of the NPP were bold to come out was when he was in active service.
He explained that “so when I was in active service, I used to organize the meetings for them. I used to buy the Chronicle newspaper for my people to read articles published by Prof. Paul Ansah. His articles were lovely and I ensured I always bought the newspaper to distribute for free to people who reasoned like me in the service.”
For this reason, he revealed that he became a target in the service and his wife was nearly killed.
