Ghana’s first mercury free gold mining plant, Akonta Mining Limited, has released a video to discard a “cut and paste” video produced by Joy FM’s Erastus Asare Donkor.
Donkor’s documentary was titled Destruction for Gold and was produced purposely to target and undermine the legal mining operations of Akonta Mining Limited.
As the dust begins to settle- and with Akonta Mining Limited producing hardcore evidence to scatter the half-baked documentary of Erastus Donkor, his production has become useless.

Akonta Mining Ltd, a mining firm is one of the large scale mining companies leading responsible mining, and playing instrumental role in the gold to GDP economic contribution.
It was granted a license to operate in Samreboi an area in the Western Region of Ghana in 2011 and 2012 respectively.
Since then, Akonta Mining Ltd has used approved means to contribute to the mining sector.
The mining area in Samreboi was originally occupied by galamseyers but upon having a lease to the area, Akonta Mining Ltd moved to the land which had several pits left behind by some galamseyers.
The issue was reported to the police, and equipment that were left in the forest, were packed as evidence.
As we speak, the land is being reclaimed at the cost of Akonta Mining Ltd, with some part of the pits been converted into a pond as part of the mining firm’s washing plants which include Mercury free equipment.
A recent Joy Fm’s reportage is spreading fake news and creating a negative perception against the same mining firm that is against illegal mining activities, destroying the Tano River.
The false report states that Akonta Mining Ltd is operating illegally at Tano Nnimri forest, a place that has been gazetted under Akonta Mining Ltd.
