The Greater Accra Director of elections and research for the New Patriotic Party, Ebenezer Doku has described as ‘senseless’, the private members motion filed by five NDC MPs requesting that parliament sets up a bi-partisan committee to probe into the 2020 elections.
Reacting to the above on the Movement Morning Political Show on Wontumi FM/Movement TV, the former constituency secretary of the NPP noted that this move by the opposition is just to paint a bad picture of the NPP.
“The NDC has a problem. You went to court challenging the outcome of the 2020 elections without evidence, now you want parliament to constitute a committee to probe it. They are doing this just to tarnish the image of the Commissioner. When the former EC chair, Charlotte Osei breached procurement processes, the court took its own cause”, he said.
“There are lawyers in the NDC. Ayine is a very seasoned lawyer unless of course he’s yet to read that portion of the law. My problem is the procedure the NDC is using to address their concerns. Is it the case that they want to come out with their own results, hence the demand to chair the committee? It doesn’t make sense at all and I know Ghanaians know what the NDC is about”, he added.
This comes on the back of a private member’s motion requesting Parliament to constitute a bi-partisan committee to thoroughly review the processes and the procedures adopted by the Electoral Commission in the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary elections by 5 NDC MPs.
The Minority MPs also want the committee to inquire whether the Electoral Commission introduced ballot papers that were pre-thumb- printed and bore the stamp of the commission into the system.
The sponsors of the bill are Asawase MP, Muntaka Mubarak, MP for Bolga East, Dr. Dominic Ayine, MP for Akatsi South, Bernard Ahiafor, Buem MP, Kofi Adams and MP for Salaga South, Zuweira Ibrahimah.
