There’s So Much Pressure As Black Stars Coach – C.K Akonnor Confesses
Head coach of the Black Stars Charles Kwablan Akonnor has admitted there’s so much pressure of being the head coach of the Ghana national team due to the demanding nature of Ghanaians.
The former Hearts of Oak and Kotoko gaffer was appointed early last year to succeed his former boss Akwesi Appiah and has since then guided the team to four matches; winning and losing two each including the 0-1 loss to Sudan in Omdurman late last year.
Currently, he is in camp with the Black Stars who are still in serious preparations for the upcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa in Johannesburg and Sao Tome at home.
In an interview with DW TV in Germany, the Black Stars gaffer disclosed there’s so much pressure as Ghana coach because of how demanding the people are, always expecting the best from the national team. He said;
“The pressure here in Ghana as a national coach is enormous,” he told Dw TV.
“It’s not at all comparable to Europe. Here, everyone wants to have a say, to have a say and knows everything better.”
“If you lose once, you’re immediately the fool.”
Charles Kwablan Akonnor is expected to release his final squad for the qualifiers on Friday and it will obviously be dominated by the home base players due to the inability of the foreign players to join the team due to Covid restrictions in the various European countries they play.
