The President of the Fourth Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says the government has not thrown out its hands in despair because the country is on course to adapt to recent global challenges.

He says economic difficulties including the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, energy crunch, depreciation of the cedi, and other domestic economic challenges, among others, will be robustly dealt with.

The remedy, he believes, is to “find Ghanaian solutions to our Ghanaian problems.”

The President was speaking in Cape Coast in his address to mark the 65th Independence Day anniversary.

“Over the last two years, we have seen the destruction of the global supply and financial system. It has opened up on the huge funding gap, and it is virtually in all countries. There is the erosion of the fiscal space and the widening of fiscal deficit and increase public debt levels. We are seeing rising crude prices, the rising cost of fuel, rising cost of items, and the depreciation of the currency.”

“In as much as these are happening around, the government of Akufo-Addo has not thrown out its hands in despair. We are not looking for the easy way, we are determined to be more reliant and in the process find Ghanaian solutions to Ghanaian problems”, President Akufo-Addo promised.

Ghana’s 65th Independence Day Celebration parade, which was celebrated today, Sunday, March 6, 2022, was under the theme: “Working together; Bouncing Back Better”.

President Akufo-Addo appealed to Ghanaians to trust his administration to turn around the worsening economic situation.

“I do not underestimate the challenges with which we are confronted, but I am strong with my conviction that we can overcome them. I know we are capable. I believe in the can-do spirit of the Ghanaian, the first people in sub-Saharan Africa to rid ourselves of the shackles of imperialism and colonialism. Ours is a bright future, and I am confident that our years in mother Ghana. Let us work together and bounce back together”, he said.
