The MMDCEs Are Taking Action- Weija Chief Executive Reacts To President’s Order (VIDEO)

The Municipal Chief Executive of Weija-Gbawe, Patrick Kumor has lamented over the actions of some Ghanaians which has contributed to the perennial flooding especially in Accra, whenever it rains.

According to him, in a bid to ensure improper disposal of waste is curtailed, the assembly provided 400 litter bins which were placed at vantage points on the streets to ensure pedestrians are able to discard waste properly.

However, some recalcitrants deliberately drop their waste into gutters and on the streets.

This comes on the back of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s order to all Metropolitans, Municipal, and District Chief Executives, to demolish all illegal structures erected on waterway; else they will have to bear the brunt should flood be recorded within their assemblies.

Reacting to the President’s order on MOVEMENT IN THE MORNING political show, the MCE told Kwaku Dawuro, the host that “the flood challenge occurs almost everywhere across the country and is not peculiar to Weija- Gbawe alone. But, if you have been following me, you will realize that I have been doing a lot in curtailing floods in my assembly”; adding that many structures have been earmarked for demolition.”

He made it known that in demolishing illegal structures, there are some places where inhabitants are given some period to settle elsewhere, to pave way for the demolishing exercise; however, for some other areas, it’s crucial that the structures are demolished speedily.

“The MCEs are taking actions but it’s mostly not highlighted by the media”, he bemoaned.

He partially blamed the media, noting that instead of educating people whose structures are demolished to know that it’s illegal to build on waterways, the media does the otherwise, by giving the victims their platforms to lament and make it as though the assembly is insensitive.

He further called on the media and the entire citizenry, to ensure that whatever the country is trying to achieve, is successful.

Parts of Accra submerged for the second time in four days. The latest incident happened when the rain started at midnight of Tuesday, May 24.

Some areas in the capital affected include; Kaneshie, Adabraka, Weija, Teshie, Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Dansoman, Tse Addo, Tesano among others.
