Argument That The NPP Doesn’t Give Their Youth Chance To Lead Is Flawed -Oheneba Nana Asiedu
Wontumi radio and television presenter Oheneba Nana Asiedu has challenged claims that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) does not offer opportunities to the youth. According to him, this assertion is flawed, as the party has consistently elevated young individuals to key leadership positions.
Citing examples like Justin Frimpong Kodua (JFK), Abu Jinapor, and Francis Asenso-Boakye, Oheneba emphasized that the NPP has demonstrated its willingness to entrust youth with major responsibilities.
He argued that the recent appointment of young people in the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration does not automatically mean the NDC is more youth-focused than the NPP.
He pointed out that even though the Ashanti Regional Minister appointed by the NDC is young, that should not put pressure on the NPP to appoint a young minister in the same region just for appearances.
He stressed that the NPP has many capable young individuals in the Ashanti Region who are fit for ministerial positions, but the party also retains experienced senior members who continue to be valuable assets—especially when the party wins power.
Drawing a comparison, he referenced the NDC’s dominance in the Northern Region, stating that most of their appointees there are elderly but effective, due to their competence and the party’s stronghold in that area.
Oheneba also challenged the NDC to name any young person they have elected to key national party leadership roles such as General Secretary or National Chairman—positions he said have consistently been held by older figures within the party.
He encouraged the NPP youth to remain loyal and continue working hard to help the party regain power.
He assured them that when the NPP returns to power, the youth will have every right to protect their interests and push for key leadership roles in both party and government.
