The ‘1 District 1 Housing Project’ Will Make Rural Posting Attractive When Completed- SHC MD (VIDEO)

The Managing Director (MD) of State Housing Company (SHC), Kwabena Ampofo Appiah, has revealed that the ‘1 district 1 housing project’ of the ruling Government is still in the pipeline.

“Government is set to construct its district housing projects of about 400 units in the villages which wouldn’t be sold but for rent. This is the vision of President Akufo-Addo for Ghanaian workers”, he told Kwaku Dawuro on Movement In The Morning Show on Wontumi Radio/Movement TV.

“We’ve already started the feasibility studies and we are done with the land acquisition and everything. We are just left for the project to start- 1 district in all the 16 regions”, he said.

He noted that this is amongst the Government’s plan to reduce and ultimately resolve the housing deficit in the country and also ensure that workers who are posted to rural areas do not refuse to go due to lack of basic amenities in such communities.

“The idea is to ensure that professionals posted to rural areas can live comfortably, so that people wouldn’t reject postings to the rural communities. We are taking the first class services that we are used to in Accra at the district level”, he added.

The State Housing MD however mentioned that not all districts will benefit from this policy. “There are some districts which don’t need the housing projects but all the ones which need these projects will get them”.

The State Housing Company Limited was established originally as the Gold Coast Housing Corporation in 1956 under the Gold Coast Housing Corporation Ordinance 1955 (No.31).

In 1965, the name of the Corporation was changed to the State Housing Corporation and mandated to increase the availability of dwelling houses in Ghana.
