Thank God For The Chaos In Parliament; They Will Learn Sense- Governance Expert

A Governance expert, Dr. Kofi Adu Yamoah, has beamed with smiles following the fisticuffs that ensued in Parliament house late last night.

Dr. Yamoah, in an interview on Wontumi TV which was monitored by Wontumionline, stated that Ghana’s Parliament would become a better place after the chaotic scenes.

He posited that for our governance to grow, our Parliamentarians must get bloody, beat each other and sometimes come out of the house with broken legs and all we need to do as observers, is to give thanks to God as we massage their wounds.

“We must thank God the place is getting bloody; they will learn sense”, he observed on the Kumasi based media house.

He continued that “it is good, they (Parliamentarians) are getting to know the job. Our democracy is growing so it is a good thing for Ghana. Westminster, etc have all gone through that phase.”

In Dr. Kofi Adu Yamoah’s view, if this happens, the minority group in Parliament, would respect the majority group and the respect would be vice versa.

He added that “they will now learn to sit on the table and talk about what Ghanaians want and how to find resources for it.”

Last Monday, some MPs were engaged in a fistfight following disagreement on the E-levy bill.  The fight ensued when the MPs were voting in a headcount to decide whether the E-levy bill should be accepted under a certificate of urgency.

The Minority had attempted to stop the First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei Owusu, who was presiding over the House, from leaving his seat and participating in the voting process.
