Tarkwa MCE Confirms Removal Of National Sports Authority Officials Over Tna Stadium Mismanagement

The Municipal Chief Executive of Tarkwa Nsuaem, Hon. Benjamin Kessie has confirmed the termination of a management contract with the National Sports Authority (NSA) for the newly built TnA Stadium.

The decision follows concerns over the poor maintenance of the USD16.2 million, 10,000-seater facility just one month after it was handed over to the NSA.

The stadium, funded by the Goldfields Foundation and completed in June 2024, has already hosted several major football events, including the GHALCA Top 4 and Super Cup.

Despite this, reports of malfunctioning washrooms, broken pipes, and a deteriorating pitch prompted the Municipal Assembly to take action.

Hon. Kessie expressed frustration with NSA’s handling of the stadium, stating that the authority has a history of mismanaging state sports properties, such as the Essipong Stadium in Sekondi-Takoradi.

An interim committee led by James Essilfie has been formed to manage the stadium while long-term solutions are explored.

Medeama SC remains the primary user of the facility for football matches.

The Assembly is keen on protecting the facility and ensuring its proper management.
