Christian Atsu’s One Week Observation Set For March 4

The one-week observation in memory of departed Ghana international, Christian Atsu, has been scheduled for Saturday, March 4. The decision resulted from talks among Atsu’s family, the Ghana Football Association (GFA), and the Sports Ministry at the player’s family home. Evans Bobie, the Deputy Minister of Sports, led the GFA and Sports Ministry representatives in offering their condolences to the grieving family. Atsu was confirmed dead on Saturday, February 18, after 12 days under rubble as a result of the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria which claimed over 47,000 lives. Thousands of people have offered to adopt the baby girl who was born under the rubble of a collapsed building in north-west Syria, following Monday’s earthquake. When she was rescued, baby Aya – meaning miracle in Arabic – was still connected to her mother by her umbilical cord. A newborn girl has been saved by rescuers from beneath the rubble of a building in north-west Syria that was destroyed by an earthquake on Monday. Her mother went into labour soon after the disaster and gave birth before she died, a relative said. Her father, four siblings and an aunt were also killed.
