Woman Jailed 5 Years Over GH¢139,000 Recruitment Scam

The  Accra Circuit Court has sentenced a hairstyl­ist, Adwoa Nyarko, to five years in prison for engaging in GH¢139,000 recruitment scam. She was found guilty on four counts of conspiracy to commit a crime and defrauding by false pretences. The accomplices of the hair­stylist, Nana Osei and Charles Kwame Damoah, were at large. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Raymond Ackon, prosecuting, informed the court, presided over by Mrs Ellen Ofei Ayeh that Nyarko resides in Wenchi. A Nigerian pastor has been arrested over allegations he fraudulently got people to part with their money. Theo O Ebonyi, well-known in Benue state, is accused of swindling his followers and others out of more than 1.3bn naira ($930,000; £740,000). He was detained and freed on bail last year, but this has only just been made public, the anti-corruption authority spokesperson is quoted as saying.
