The Kumasi Kejetia New Market in the Ashanti Region has been taken off the national grid by the Electricity Company of Ghana bringing trading activities at the facility to a halt. The Electricity Company of Ghana on Tuesday cut power to the facility over outstanding debt. ECG Collects GH¢63.6 Million Debt From Customers

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has collected a total of GH¢63.6 million cedis debt between March 20 and April 20 during the nationwide revenue mobilisation exercise in the Eastern Region. ECG Collects GH¢63.6m Unpaid Revenue, Discovers 32,000kw Stolen Power In Eastern Region

The Revenue Protection Unit of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Eastern Region recovered 32,000kilowatts hours of stolen power from five customers engaged in seven (7) illegal connections in Akwatia, Kade, Suhum and Koforidua during the month-long revenue mobilization exercise. Notable among the identified illegal connections is a Pub in Suhum which had bypassed a meter and a customer who connected power without authorization. The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is working with the Judicial Service to introduce special utility courts in a bid to curb power theft cases across the country, the company’s deputy Managing Director of Engineering and Operations, Kojo Ayensu Obeng, has said.
