A Senior Lecturer at the Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) and a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Communication Team, Dr. Samuel Afriyie, has called for a radical overhaul of the party's electoral system, advocating for the abolition of the delegate system. According to Dr. Afriyie, the current delegate system, which allows a selected group of party members to elect executives, parliamentary and presidential candidates infringe the right of party members and excludes the majority of card-bearing members from the decision-making process.
