The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) on Wednesday, May 23 seized 54 slabs of compressed dried leaves suspected to be cannabis concealed in wooden artefacts with a gross weight of 12.67kg and with a street value of $127,713.6. The intercepted consignment, destined for the UK, were detected by officers of the Commission at the scanning room as part of their routine duties at the Kotoka International Airport Cargo Terminal. Egyptian Actress Sentenced Over Cannabis Possession

A well-known Egyptian actress has been given a one-year suspended jail sentence for possession of cannabis. The drug was found in lollipops and other snacks in her bags, according to the AFP news agency. Menna Shalabi was travelling from the US to Cairo. Cannabis is legal in some parts of the US, but not in Egypt. At the time of her arrest in November, Ms Shalabi denied that the drugs belonged to her, Egyptian media report.
