A communicator of the New Patriotic Party, (NPP), Kwasi Botwe Jnr, has told ex-President John Mahama to stop taking his retirement package if he thinks the country is battling economically.
He said this after ex-President John Mahama spoke at the Think Ghana Progress Launch on Thursday 30th June, 2022.
President John Dramani Mahama’s retirement package will blow your mind. The former President takes a non-taxable salary of GH 22, 809 in retirement which is 43% higher than what was paid to previous former Presidents. A 40% of his monthly salary will goes into staff remuneration and other benefits including a furnished residence.
Kwasi Botwe while speaking on Movement In The Morning Show with Kwaku Dawuro said, ‘’if you think the country is hard, stop taking your retirement allowance. Tell president Akufo-Addo to use the money to loosen the economic hardship in the country. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) should sign the document and release a press statement to that effect’’.
He stated that the NDC said they spent $270 dollars on the construction of the circle- dubai interchange through a loan they took from World bank, and added that the money is being paid by the Nana Addo led administration.
‘’Although Covid 19 and the Russian Ukraine war have contributed to the economic need, however, a lot of people were employed and recruited in the security agencies. In 2015, during the NDC era there were no such crises yet many young people were home, unemployed’’, he added.
He indicated that he has joined alpha hour to pray against the NDC.
