Stop Smoking Shisha, It Has Dangerous Health Implications- FDA Warns Ghanaian Youth
The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), has issued a stern warning to the youth on the smoking of shisha as the world marks, ‘World No Tobacco Day.’
According to Madam Nora Nakie Tei Larbie, the Ashanti Regional FDA Principal Regulatory Officer, the smoking of shisha poses a dangerous health disease to humans.
She enumerated some of the diseases that affect the body system on Wontumi Radio and TV’s ‘The Privilege’ Morning Show as cancer, lung disease, blood disease, impotence etc.
According to Madam Tei Larbie, the shisha has different flavors which have made some people have the perception that it is not as bad as smoking cigarettes thereby smoking it deeply into their lungs.
She revealed that, Junior High School, Senior High School students, tertiary students and the adults are the actors of the shisha smoking.
The Ashanti Regional FDA Principal Regulatory Officer told Oheneba Nana Asiedu that, the outfit is putting up frantic efforts to stop people from such malfeasance.
“There are new packages for the cigarettes indicating health implications in order to stop children from smoking,” she said.
Madam Tei Larbie insisted that, it is illegal to smoke the shisha or cigarettes in public.
“You can smoke the shisha or cigarettes but not in the public domain for different person to inhale the smoke into their lungs,” she noted.
She urged Ghanaians to report the actors to the FDA or the police for their arrest if found smoking at undesignated areas.
