Ashanti Regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has emphatically stated that they will win the 2024 election with ease with the introduction of Electronic Transaction Levy Bill (E-Levy).
He therefore cautioned the President of Imani Ghana, Mr. Franklin Cudjoe, to stop being diabolic in the way he spews “lies” about the bill.
In an interview with Movementtvonline.com, Chairman Wontumi stated that development doesn’t fall from heaven and it is only through taxation that the Akufo-Addo led government can speed up development in the era of COVID.
“It is through taxation that we can develop that is why E-Levy is on the table. The whole world has a problem, even America has introduced more taxes and the same thing is happening in UK”, Chairman Wontumi said.
NPP to win 2024 elections
Chairman Wontumi maintained that deep down in Mr. Cudjoe’s heart, he knows the NPP would win the 2024 election and that has triggered the diabolic agenda he is spearheading for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“He knows NPP is going to win the 2024 elections. If he loves Ghana, then he must support the E-Levy because it is the only way we can get more money to create employment”, Chairman Wontumi advised.
Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta says the levy will increase the country’s tax-to-GDP from 13% to a targeted 16% or more.
However, MPs from the Minority have reiterated their resolve to fight against the passage of the E-levy Bill. According to them, government’s decision to impose a 1.75% levy on all electronic transactions will collapse local businesses and deepen hardship in the country.
The Majority however, are of the opinion that, if passed, the levy will shore up revenue to fund developmental initiatives in the country.
