Speaking in an interview with Oheneba Nana Asiedu on wontumi T V, he expressed concerns that the position was being occupied by individuals who lacked the requisite experience and wisdom.
Akpalu’s comment comes on the heels of the recent Ashanti regional Council of State election, which he described as an “unfortunate scene.”
According to Mr Akpalu, the Council of State is meant for well-respected Ghanaians who possess a good legacy, working experience, and high standards. He argued that it would not make sense for a young person to advise the President, especially if the President is older than the advisor.
Akpalu emphasized that age brings experience and wisdom, which are essential for providing valuable advice to the President. “When a person is old, he or she has experienced a lot in life, and that would guide the person to advise the President well,”
Mr Akpalu proposes an age requirement of 60 years, hopes to ensure that only individuals with experience and wisdom are eligible to serve on the Council of State. He believes that this would enhance the quality of advice provided to the President and ultimately benefit the country.
The Council of State is a body of prominent citizens that advises the President on national issues. It’s composed of esteemed individuals, including traditional leaders, former Chief Justics and experienced politicians. The Council plays a crucial role in promoting good governance and democracy in Ghana.
