The Chief Executive Officer for Akonta Mining Company Limited, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, is challenging Armah Kofi Buah to produce evidence to support his claim that Akonta Mining is selling access of the Aboi Forest Reserve to illegal miners.
The Minister for Minister of Lands and Natural Resources had claimed in a press conference on 21st April, 2025, that Akonta Mining Company Limited was taking a staggering GHC 300,000 per concession from illegal miners.
The minister also said Akonta Mining has not only trespassed into protected reserves but has become a criminal syndicate.
“Worse, these illegal miners operate under Akonta’s protection, devastating the River Tano and surrounding forests with impunity”, he said.
Irritated by the “falsehood” being peddled by the minister, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako aka Chairman Wontumi told Wontumionline.com that “I am surprised by Amarh Buah is saying I have taken 300,000 from galamsey operators.
I don’t know the account which they paid that money into. It is false. We haven’t worked at Tano Nimri forest, we only applied for license and Jinapor told us to hold on due to the destruction galamsey operators caused in the area.”
