Until Judges at the Supreme Court take steps to deal with the corruption allegation thrown at them by the Member of Parliament for Asawase, the public would never have nice words to say about them, Dr. Francis Adomako has warned.
The Ashanti Regional Organizer for the New Patriotic Party in an interview on the Wontumi Morning Show pointed out that the law must be applied and Hon. Muntaka’s allegation that one judge tried to bribe an MP to vote in a particular direction must be dealt with for the truth to come out.
The MP for Asawase, Hon. Muntaka is on record to have alleged that an unnamed justice of the Supreme Court attempted to bribe a female National Democratic Congress lawmaker during the election of a speaker for the 8th parliament.
In discussing issues regarding the election of a speaker for the 8th Parliament the NDC MP told a radio station that “there was one that was led by, I mean so shamefully, a Supreme Court judge [who] called a colleague lady, telling her what they will give her, she has children [and] they will take care of her children; she can take fuel from the filling station for the four years.”
After receiving numerous backlash, Muntaka apologised for the bribery accusation issuing a statement that read “Based upon good counsel, I have also decided to let sleeping dogs lie and will consequently refrain from any further public comment on the matter which, as I have indicated was originally reported to me by a female colleague Parliamentarian.”
But Dr. Francis Adomako responded by stating that some judges in Ghana have lost their jobs due to corruption and for that reason must address the allegation raised by the NDC legislator.
He explained that “I got scared when I heard him(Muntaka) attacking a Supreme Court Judge. There have been allegations that judges were corrupt and some of them lost their jobs…Muntaka is now alleging that one judge was trying to bribe an MP to vote in a particular way. We must get to the bottom of the matter. Else people would have a different mindset about judges.”
He proposed that if it turns out that Hon. Muntaka’s allegation were false, he should be punished to serve as lesson for others to learn from.
Adding that the perception out there about our judges were not good and for that matter, the allegations levelled against them must not go unsettled.
He opined that until the Supreme Court Judges deal with the issue, they would be haunted for the rest of their lives and urged them to to lift the indelible mark of corruption Muntaka is forcing on them.
