Sanitation canker in Bekwai Constituency to End Soon – Bekwai MP.

The Bekwai Constituency is poised for significant improvements in sanitation, thanks to the efforts of Hon. Ralph Poku-Adusei, MP, and Deputy Ranking Member on the committee on Sanitation and Water Resources.

A recent meeting between the committee , Municipal Assembly, Environmental and Sanitation officers, representatives from Zoomlion Ghana, and the Kumasi Recycling Compost Plant as part of the Committee’s working visit highlighted the constituency’s pressing sanitation issues.

The meeting concluded that Bekwai Constituency faces significant challenges, including a limited number of Zoomlion containers, issues with the Sanitation Improvement Plan (SIP), fumigation, and difficulties with the final dumping site at Sesekro To address these issues, the stakeholders agreed on the need for a mobile transfer station site or a compost recycling plant within the constituency.

This would enable the conversion of refuse into organic manure or compost, creating employment opportunities and improving household waste collection.

Despite Hon. Poku-Adusei’s previous efforts to improve sanitation in the constituency by clearing over 60 years old refuse dump at Kokofu, Poano, and Adjamesu, much more needs to be done to eradicate the sanitation menace. Addressing the participants at the meeting, Hon. Poku-Adusei emphasized his commitment to leveraging his influence as Deputy Ranking Member on the Committee on Sanitation and Water Resources to lobby for initiatives that will improve sanitary conditions in the Constituency.

He revealed that he has appealed to the management of the Kumasi Compost and Recycling Plant to collaborate with the Municipal Assembly, stakeholders, and himself to establish a compost and recycling plant in Bekwai Constituency.

This plant would serve not only Bekwai but also adjacent constituencies.

Hon. Poku-Adusei assured constituents that he is committed to delivering this project as part of his “Clean Bekwai” campaign. With health being a top priority, he emphasized that all efforts will be made to ensure the establishment of the compost recycling plant, promoting a cleaner and healthier environment and creating jobs for the people of Bekwai Constituency.
