Registry Of Births And Deaths Provided Resources To Start Registration Of Babies – Kusi Boafo

Mr, Thomas Kusi Boafo, CEO of Public Sector Reforms (PSR) has disclosed that the government has started a process of resourcing the offices of the Births and Death Registry across the country with logistics to make them effective in registering newly born babies as part of the rapid transformation of the country in all sectors.

Mr Kusi Boafo who was speaking on Wontumi TV/Radio in Kumasi in a live political programme hosted by Oheneba Nana Asiedu on Tuesday said the the idea of issuing every genuine Ghanaian with an ID card for the citizenship data base is critical in Ghana’s social transformation efforts.

“Very soon the National ID card will dominate every sphere of the life of the Ghanaian which the government has an interest even when one is going to rent an apartment to live in.”

According to him, there will be a direct coordination between the Registry of Births and Deaths which will directly be in-charge of the registration of newly born babies and health centres, Municipal/Metropolitan/Municipal/District Assemblies (MMDA’s),, SSNIT, traditional authorities and the National Identification Authority (NIA) who will all work together to ensure a smooth registration of newly born babies.

Mr. Kusi Boafo disclosed that in the new dispensation , parents have within the first 12 months of delivery to registered their babies which is for free, Those who fail to take advantage of the free registration will be charged a token as a penalty before being issued with the unique birth certificate.

The PSR CEO further stated that the country is currently treading the path of transformation which will affect all sectors of the economy and every citizen whether old or young has to be accounted for.

He said it is in view of this that the NPP has to groom a new crop of young politicians who will be properly mentored and “tutored not to go the way of the NDC by insulting the elderly.”

“My advice for the younger generations is to make themselves relevant by acquiring knowledge and requisite skills to upgrade themselves because they are going to be the conveyor belt in the transfer of the NPP’s policies and programmes as they are being prepared to take over from the older generation.” He said

, The PSR CEO held the view that the NPP under Nana Addo and Dr Bawumia are dictating the pace by changing the face of democracy. “ We have a leader who is visionary and positions his appointees at the right place.”
