Based on the data and the principle as espoused by the PURC in the quarterly Tariff adjustment, the people should receive nothing less that 14% tariff reduction for Q2.
All the PURC has done with the meager 4.81% reduction is to at best remove the prior over charging of the people, this doesn’t even refund but simply remove it.
The PURC shld relook at the tariff adjustment variables itself and recognize the downward trend since Q2 and let the new tariffs reflect same.
The People’s Forum as a result has further petitioned the PURC to make and additional 10% reduction on electricity tariffs for the People.
OUR RENEWED RECOMMENDATIONS AND DEMANDS
• Implement a further meaningful reduction in electricity tariffs (targeting at least an additional 10% average, weighted toward residential and small non-residential users). This would better reflect actual (not projected) improvements and prevent perpetuation of hardship.
• Maintain or freeze tariffs beyond this if indicators remain favorable, avoiding any Q2-end or Q3 increases.
• Accelerate nationwide meter recalibration to correct inflated readings, as ongoing billing anomalies continue to inflate effective costs beyond approved rates.
• Engage transparently with the people, in an urgent stakeholder forum to review MYTO assumptions and ensure future adjustments prioritize consumer relief amid economic recovery.
The Ghanaian people deserve to pay what is fair and true and not be burdened with neck breaking tariffs which is collapsing businesses and
increasing the cost of living for the people.
