Sheikha Mahra, wife of Sheikh Mana bin Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mana Al Maktoum, has announced her divorce from her husband on social media, sparking reactions among netizens.
The Dubai princess invoked the practice of triple talaq, a method in Islamic law where a Muslim man can divorce his wife by uttering the Arabic word for divorce three times.
In her Instagram post, she cited her husband’s infidelity as the reason for their separation, stating, “Dear Husband, as you are occupied with other companions, I hereby declare our divorce.
“I divorce you, I divorce you, and I divorce you,” she continued, concluding with, “Take care. Your ex-wife.”
However, this action has stirred debate as triple talaq is said to be traditionally initiated by men under Islamic law.
Since her announcement, both Sheikha Mahra and Sheikh Mana appear to have removed all photos of each other from their respective Instagram accounts.
Sheikha Mahra and Sheikh Mana bin Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mana Al Maktoum, both members of the UAE’s royal family, had a lavish wedding ceremony in May 2023 and recently welcomed a daughter less than three months ago.
