Mr. Kofi Owusu Omar, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the opposition Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), says it is the duty of the Bank of Ghana to provide bulletproof bullion vans to the banks.
According to him, the Bank of Ghana has to be blamed for attacks on bullion vans sometimes leading to the loss of lives.
Speaking in an interview on The Privilege Morning Show on Wontumi Radio/TV, Mr. Omar said that if Bank collapse, the Bank of Ghana holds them responsible.
The GCPP Chairman urged the IGP, James Oppong Boanuh not to detail any police officer to protect cash being transported in bullion vans.
Chairman Omar bemoaned bitterly that, this is not the first time such a heinous crime has occurred and wondered why no stringent measures have been instituted to end the spate of bullion vans raid.
According to him, the former and current IGPs have not live up to expectations.
He said that, there are some police officers who did not rise to the level of IGP but on merit have performed even better in crime control.
“Such gallant police officers have their names written in gold because they can better handle difficult crime situations but they have been sidelined..”He said.
According to him, “only a few police officers can be compared to COP Kofi Boakye in terms of skills but he has been sidelined.”
He urged Ghanaians to understand that, Ghana is being developed developing the sake of posterity.
