The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Savannah Regional Chairman, Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana, also known as Professor Kalamonia, has thrown his weight behind calls for Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s Flagbearer, to select the Chief of Staff, Madam Frema Opare as his running mate for the 2024 elections.
According to Alhaji Sulemana, Madam Opare’s wealth of experience in governance, her proven track record, and her dedication to the party’s ideals make her an excellent choice for the position. He believes her inclusion on the ticket will not only guarantee the party’s victory but also provide a strong and capable leadership for the country.
“Madam Frema Opare has served the party and the country with distinction, and her expertise in governance is unmatched. She will bring a unique perspective and strength to the ticket, and I believe she is the perfect running mate for Dr. Bawumia,” he stated.
Alhaji Sulemana’s endorsement follows similar calls from other party members and regional executives, including the Western North regional Party, Chairman Benjamin Armah, the Ahafo Regional Chairman, Kwabena Owusu Sekyere, who believe Madam Opare’s inclusion on the ticket will bring a much-needed balance and diversity to the party’s leadership.
The party’s leadership is yet to make an official announcement on the running mate selection, but Alhaji Sulemana’s endorsement has added to the growing momentum behind Madam Opare’s candidacy.
If selected, Madam Opare will become the first female running mate of the NPP, a move that many believe will be a game-changer for the party and the country.
Accomplishments
Kwabena Owusu Sekyere described Madam Akosua Frema Osei-Opare as a woman who has occupied some attainable positions such as being Member of Parliament, working as a Minister of state and currently serving as Chief of Staff.
“So that alone makes her knowledgeable of the New Patriotic Party. She served as a Minister during the tenure of former President Kufuor, as well as an MP”.
Battle of ladies
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has settled on a woman as running mate but her record, according to Mr. Owusu Sekyere doesn’t compare to Madam Akosua Frema Osei-Opare.
“I’ve already stated that we have ladies in this country, and the NDCs have opted for a lady as their running mate but there is a vast difference when you compare her to Akosuah Fremah Opare”.
The NDC’s running mate according to him “is not an intellect when it comes to politics because she’s a teacher by profession but politically, Frema is more matured in all aspects.”
Ashanti factor
He made a passionate appeal to Dr Bawumia to settle on Madam Akosua Frema Osei-Opare since she comes from Ashanti region.
Madam Akosua Frema Osei-Opare hails from Antoa and Wiamoase which in Chairman Sekyere’s view, “makes her a member of the Ashanti Kingdom”.
“We would once again plead for the running mate to come from Ashanti Region where the heart of the party is. If it will be concluded that a woman should occupy the position, then Dr Bawumia and President Akufo- Addo should intervene and i believe the council will duly accept it”, he said.
