Politicians Only Constitute Less Than 2% Of Bribery And Corruption Allegations- MP Says Over CHRAJ Corruption Report

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Asene Manso Akroso, Hon. George Kwame Aboagye, has said 2% of corruption cases are related to politicians, adding majority of the cases involve citizens.

His comment comes after the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice’s (CHRAJ) report on corruption in Ghana.

Adding his voice to the issue in an interview with Kwaku Dawuro on Movement In The Morning Show, Hon. Kwame Aboagye stated the bribery situation in the country is the root cause of the country’s underdevelopment.

He said, “the cedi has depreciated because some people have been buying in bulk to sell in Nigeria-it is a big business now because there is shortage of dollar in their country. So no matter the amount of dollars Bank of Ghana (BOG) brings, there will still be shortage. We are the same people destroying the country, yet we go about blaming politicians. The report is true, it’s actually happening. The total  amount of bribe taken would have been very high if not for Dr. Bawumia’s digitization agenda. Prior to it, when you go the licence, passport and the other offices, the rule was you will pay before you will be attended to”.

In addition he said, ”a woman approached me in my constituency that she needed a spot for her son’s Senior High School (SHS) Education, I tried my best but to no avail- by the time I realized, she had gone to pay money to get the slot for her son. They do this and come back to say politicians are corrupt. People are taking bribe everywhere meanwhile Ghana is one of the most Religious countries yet the same people are the most corrupt’’, he added.

He stated that Ghana should have been developed by now, adding the source of income of people who occupy public offices must be known to track their wealth.
