The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako (a.k.a Chairman Wontumi) has refuted claims that some government appointees and party executives are being intimidated for supporting a particular candidate describing such comments as ‘political campaign commentary’.
Speaking on Wontumi TV/Radio on Thursday, Chairman Wontumi said, “I’ve not intimidated any one anywhere, the winner carries his victory along but how to make it happen is up to him. With my role as a servant of the party in the Ashanti Region I can boldly declare that nothing like that allegation has ever happened in the region and will never happen”
He encouraged all delegates to boldly come out on Saturday and vote for their preferred candidate.
“Our interest is not mostly on the super delegates election; the agenda is to get a candidate who can defeat the NDC’s candidate, John Dramani Mahama. It’s good for as many candidates as possible to join the contest but in line with our party’s constitution we can only elect one person to lead us”
He pledged that the party will build a solid team to battle the NDC in 2024 after a successful internal election.
“It’s nothing new in our party, we’ve done it before and we’ll never give up on that; all the candidates are party members and some have had the opportunity to contest before, Alan Kyerematen, Addae Nimo, Kennedy Agyapong and many others have gone into elections before so it’s not new in the NPP enclave. They all deserve to lead but we need to understand that the one who can help us break the 8 and protect our major achievements like the free education, projects, teacher trainee allowances, digitalization, roads and the rest is the one we want.
I’m the chairman and I can assure everybody that it’s going to be positive”, he added.
