Police Refer O’Reilly Student Murder Case To Attorney General

The Ghana Police Service has forwarded a duplicate docket of the O’Reilly student murder case to the Attorney General’s office for advise.

Chief Inspector Paul Osei disclosed this during a court sitting, according to a report by myjoyonline.com.

He stated that he had assigned the case investigator to follow up on the matter.

The case has since been adjourned to October 21, 2024, when the accused, Godwin Mawuli, will make an appearance in court.

He is currently on remand in police custody.

The Magistrate, Adwoa Benaso Asumadu-Sakyi, took the time to explain the processes to the deceased’s family and urged them to also stay engaged with the case, the report added.

Godwin Mawuli has been charged with murder in connection with the death of Edward Borketey Sackey, a final-year student at O’Reilly SHS in Accra.

The incident occurred during an argument between the two students about whose father was wealthier.

Frantic efforts by fellow students to get treatment for the deceased proved futile when he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Authorities, including the Ghana Education Service, have since commenced investigations into the incident, amid claims of school negligence.
